In memoriam

Our friend and colleague Claude Schumacher passed away on February 28 after a long illness. He died at home, in his house in Burgundy, with Noëlle by his side. Claude was a gifted artist – he was trained as an actor. He was a brilliant scholar, original and audacious, and he was a remarkable organizer. For years he was the editor of Theatre Research International, the journal of IFTR. He was wit the IUTA from the very beginning, and along with Maria S. Horne, took charge of our publications. Claude published the first three IUTA books.

We lose a dear friend and a wonderful collaborator. We are thankful for Claude’s generous and strong contribution to our association. He played an important part in the development of our association and in university theatre in general -, both – studies and activities, since he was also involved in practice. Claude loved theatre, which he knew very well, in all of its dimensions. Claude was an emeritus professor at the University of Glasgow.
